We at lovebscott.com are very happy and excited that Kerry Washington is expecting…but we’re a little bummed that the pregnancy is getting in the way of our Scandal obsession.
The season is being shortened 4 episodes (from 22 to 18) because Kerry Washington can no longer hide her pregnancy. Yes, that means they’ve run out of those fabulous coats to fit Olivia’s growing baby bump.
When the news of Kerry’s pregnancy first circulated, we wondered what it meant for Kerry’s character Olivia Pope. Would we see a President/mistress love child enter the storyline?
Of course that would be way too easy for the genius that is Shonda Rhimes.
Deadline reports:
The network has reduced the order for the hot Shonda Rhimes drama from 22 to 18 episodes. The network wouldn’t give a reason for the cutback but, of course, it is not because ABC doesn’t want a full season of Scandal — it would gladly take 40 episodes a season from its new flagship drama series if it could. But Scandal star Kerry Washington is pregnant, and it’s getting hard to hide the pregnancy in loose-fitting clothes for the normally super stylish and elegant Olivia Pope — and it’s hard to reduce Washington’s workload as Pope is the show and in most scenes.
Aw man. We’re a little devastated at the news….but what can you do? We’re glad they’ve decided to think smart and keep the integrity of the show as opposed to adapting it on the fly to accommodate a surprise (to us) pregnancy.
